Chatting Crowdfunding

Mark Campbell is a serial entrepreneur who spent a lot of time building his business skill set. His education began at the University of California, where he earned a BA in Philosophy with Honors and a BS in Business Administration. He is also a graduate of Lloyd Greif School of Entrepreneurship and studied internet retailing at the Sloan Center. Finally, he concluded his post-graduate studies at Shanghai’s Fudan University, where he earned an International Business Certificate.

Campbell currently works as the VP of Marketing for InventureX, a firm that has been helping entrepreneurs reach their crowdfunding goals since 2012. InventureX has successfully launched over 300 companies since the company’s inception, giving them an unparalleled knowledge of the emerging crowdfunding industry. We recently had the chance to sit down with Campbell and discuss what makes the crowdfunding field so exciting!

  1. How Did You Get Started in the Crowdfunding Industry?

Ever since I was a child, I’ve enjoyed hearing stories about how people can take a small idea and use it to launch a successful enterprise. Working in the crowdfunding field allows me to hear those stories and call it my job, so I really couldn’t be happier with my career choice.

  1. What Is Your Favorite Thing About the Crowdfunding Industry?

I love how dynamic it is! Sometimes, we’re working with so many clients that the entire day is a whirlwind of activity. I’m constantly hearing great ideas and working with their originators to bring them to fruition. It’s chaotic, exciting, and I absolutely love it!

That said, sometimes we’re not that busy. During the leaner times, I like to take a deep dive into our analytics to ensure that our techniques are still effective in the ever-changing crowdfunding space.

  1. What Is One Trait That Makes You So Successful at Your Career?

I believe that my dedication and passion are the drivers of my professional success. You can’t be satisfied with your life unless you are fulfilled by your work, which means doing what you love well. I try to do that every day.

  1. What Is a Piece of Advice You Would Pass Along to Aspiring Entrepreneurs?

“It’s not okay to play it safe all of the time.” Failure can be scary, especially when it involves the risk of a business closing its doors for good. However, I find that it is often necessary to step out of your comfort zone if you want to succeed in the fast-paced business world. Otherwise, innovation will make you irrelevant.

  1. When Not Working at InventureX, What Are Some of Your Hobbies and Interests?

Oh God I have so many! (Laughs) We’re based in California, so I love taking scenic walks on the beach with my wife. I also find track racing exhilarating and pursue that adrenaline rush every chance I get. I also enjoy attending car shows and traveling around the world. Of course, my work with InventureX limits the time I have to enjoy these activities (Laughs).

  1. How Can Aspiring Entrepreneurs Get Started with InventureX?

  1. Now, Share with Us One Random Fact That No One Knows About You!

Recently, I’ve started to develop a casual interest in cryptocurrencies. Crowdfunding is already handled online, so I don’t think it is too much of a stretch to envision a future in which we’re raising Bitcoin instead of dollars on behalf of our clients. Our CEO, Kyle Thomas, honestly knows more about the space than I do, but I’m learning more whenever I get the opportunity.
