Are you part of the 20% of procrastinators in America? If you answered yes and are ready to cut procrastination out of your life, you are in the right place. We are going to go over how adding something called unschedule into your life will help you.

This productivity tool is a unique approach to scheduling. Keep reading to learn how to make the most of it.

What Is Unschedule?

Unscheduling your schedule is a method of planning your schedule but with a twist. The twist is that you schedule the fun stuff and must happen things first. Schedule things like fixed commitments such as sleep, eating, etc, also schedule in your self-care like meditation and yoga, and guilt-free playtime.

You do not schedule any work until you work for 30 minutes without any interruptions. Once you complete those first 30 minutes you shade in a block of “work time” in your schedule.

You can create your schedule online to make it easier for you to access it from your computer or mobile phone.

Why Does Unscheduling Work?

Normally when we procrastinate we have thoughts like “I have to do this” or “I will force myself to work and I won’t get to have fun.” We tend to sacrifice fun for working because we put off projects to the last minute.

When we are clear on how much time we have on our calendars and how much time we have left to work after doing all of our fun stuff we realize that we do not have as much time as we thought. This makes us get started on our work earlier.

Rewards

After each period that you work, make sure to give yourself a reward. Make the rewards consistent to train yourself to continue your new working habits. If you do not reward yourself after a while you might feel burned out or not truly excited to work and end up starting the cycle of procrastination again.

Keep Track of Quality Hours

Make sure that every week you are keeping track of how much time you actually spent working. Knowing how much time you spent working and being productive will give you a sense of accomplishment making you more excited to continue working the following week.

Keeping track will also help you improve every week the amount of time you spend getting things done. Instead of feeling guilty at the end of the week for not getting to your projects you will feel a sense of accomplishment and relief.

Ready to Start Unscheduling?

Now that you are aware of this unique approach to creating your schedule, are you ready to unschedule your life? Although it might sound like it won’t work, you can’t knock it until you try it. Unscheduling is all about using a reverse psychology approach to procrastination.
