How To Keep Your Employees Happy

As either a CEO or the head of Human Resources in your company, it is your responsibility to make sure that you are getting the most out of your employees. In years past that may have meant to pressure them into performing at a high level.

These days, it is widely understood that this way of doing this is actually demotivating and leads to decreased production. Instead, keeping employees happy is the best way to make sure they are productive.

In this article, I will go over several ways that you can be active in keeping your workers happy and get the most out of them through positivity instead of making common mistakes that decreases productivity.

Team bonding

When a team is composed of people who like each other and have a bond, productivity rises. It isn’t easy bringing in people from lots of different backgrounds and having them work in harmony.

Which is where team building or team bonding exercises come into play. But, you can’t do the typical types of boring events that people would rather skip out on. Instead, you have to make team bonding fun, exciting and rewarding to participate in.

Instead of doing the traditional thing and booking a weekend in a boring hotel and doing exercises that feel outdated, use some creativity and try something different. Here are some ideas on how to have a successful corporate event that will have your employees excited.

Allow flexibility

A rigid hierarchy and company culture can lead to an employee feeling stifled. Allowing some flexibility into their routine will go a long way towards making them feel enabled. This will let them work to their strengths.

For example, if you let an employee work from home a day or two per week, that will allow them to work in the way that is best for them. Another example would be having flexible office hours. Commuting is stressful and soul crushing when you have to sit in traffic for hours. If you have employees that could come in later and avoid the traffic then that will increase productivity. As long as the work gets done, it shouldn’t matter how it happens.

Allow decision making

Your employees were hired for their good sense. Which means that you should trust them to make good decisions. Allow some autonomy when it comes to them making some decisions on company matters or how their work should get done.

This will allow them to feel that they are an integral part of the process and not just a replaceable cog in the machine.

During meetings, ask them for their opinions and reward them for offering ideas that end up working.

Give them tools

Workers need to feel like they are being set up for success. That means that they have to feel like they are being given the right tools for them to get the work done. Invest in the right software that makes simple tasks easier and allows them to be more productive.
